Feeling professional makes you look more professional; it just does. The more confident you are in your brand, the better you’ll feel about putting it out there, and the more clients you’re going to get! I know the list of to-dos can feel overwhelming, and you may feel like there a million things you need to do before you can put yourself out there confidently (I’ve been there). Still, it’s important to remember it’s better to take on a few bite-sized things than to overwhelm yourself and burn out! I also want to encourage you that it’s better to show imperfectly than not to show up at all. That said, who doesn’t want to polish up their online presence a little? Here are a few things that have helped me feel more confident in my brand’s online presence, and I bet they’ll work for you too!
This is a super easy one, and believe me, it helps! When you’re chasing down those leads, every little extra boost counts! The difference between email@example.com email and firstname.lastname@example.org is huge! Just having that professional email adds so much credibility, it’s insane. The cherry on top? A super professional email signature! Emails are not most people’s jam, but I can tell you that I love how I feel sending an awesome proposal from my little professional email with my little professional signature at the bottom! Give it a whirl.
Having professional images is a game changer! It can take your Instagram and website from eh to polished as hell overnight! A few hundred dollars, a great photographer, and some outfit changes, and you’ve got yourself a polished looking online presence that’s going to help build that confidence with your audience that you mean business.
(I know it’s a bit of an investment, so if you’re not ready for that, read this!)
This doesn’t have to be all-consuming or a huge deal, but take a few minutes when your planning your content to arrange the visual components in a nice way. I like using Planoly for this. Please don’t overthink this; just try to space things out. For example, if you just posted a graphic template you use a lot, make sure that it looks evenly spaced out the next time you use it. Of course, the type of content your sharing will vary greatly depending on your business, but take a little extra time to make sure the posts look nice next to each other and aren’t too redundant.
An easy way to make sure your messaging is consistent is to determine ‘content pillars’ for your brand. If you need an example, these are my content pillars:
Let’s say you were a sustainable clothing brand – your pillars might be:
Then everything you talk about & share should fit under one of those three umbrellas or pillars. This will ensure that your people know exactly what you do, what matters to you, and suddenly, your brand’s voice is stronger and clearer.
A high-quality website helps your brand in so many ways, but it definitely will make your presence in the online space more refined and polished! When you love your website and feel proud to show it off, it’s easier to get leads, raise your prices, attract clients, and build trust with your people! Take a look at your site and notice how you feel when you look at it. Does it make you feel proud? Does it make you feel excited? If it doesn’t, then it isn’t really serving you well!
